Our Program
Active Swim
Active Swim is Rainbow Club’s dedicated swimming program for participants aged 16–25 years with disability who want to continue swimming in a structured, social, and supportive group environment.
This program was introduced to ensure older swimmers can continue their swimming journey with Rainbow Club once they age out of our children’s stroke-based programs.
Why Active Swim?
Rainbow Club’s stroke-based programs — Swim the Rainbow and Rainbow Squads — are designed for swimmers up to 15 years of age. Once swimmers turn 16, there was previously no structured swim pathway to continue within Rainbow Club.
While we offer Active Moves (a movement-based program led by an Exercise Physiologist), we recognise that:
- Not all participants want to transition away from swimming
- Many older swimmers want to keep refining their strokes
- Social, group-based swim training remains important for confidence, fitness, and connection
Active Swim was created to meet this need, providing a clear, age-appropriate swimming pathway for teens and young adults.
What is Active Swim?
Active Swim is a stroke-based, group swimming program focused on:
- Ongoing stroke development
- Fitness and endurance
- Social participation
- Confidence and independence in the water
Sessions follow the same social swimming and stroke-development approach as Swim the Rainbow and Rainbow Squads, but are tailored specifically for older swimmers.
