Teacher FAQs

Information regarding rosters, unavailability, shift bidding, school holiday operations and continuous enrolment.

Rosters & Availability
Will teachers have access to more shifts?
Teachers may have access to additional shifts throughout the year, depending on operational requirements and availability across locations.
How do I advise when I am unavailable?
Teachers are encouraged to update any known unavailability in Employment Hero as soon as possible throughout the year to support rostering and planning.

Once submitted, teachers should also notify their Lead Teacher and Regional Manager where required.

Watch: Employment Hero Availability Guide
Will I receive reminders to update my availability?
Yes. Prior to each new roster being prepared, approximately two months in advance, teachers will receive a reminder to review and submit any upcoming unavailability in Employment Hero.
When will rosters be published?
Rosters will generally be published on the 1st of each month for the following month.

Example:
  • Unavailability for August should be submitted before 25 June.
  • August rosters will be published on 1 July.
  • Teachers should continue to advise of any new or ongoing unavailability as it arises.
What happens if I become unavailable after rosters are published?
If you become unavailable after rosters have been released, please notify your Lead Teacher and/or Regional Manager as soon as possible, as you currently do.
Do teachers need to confirm shifts?
Your roster will be published on the 1st of every month. Teachers are not required to separately confirm shifts, however any unavailability should be communicated as soon as possible.

If unavailability has been entered into the Employment Hero Work App before the roster is published, you will not be rostered on or shown as available to work on those dates.
School Holidays & Extra Shifts
Will all clubs operate during school holidays?
Most locations will continue lessons across additional weeks of the year, including some school holiday periods.

Some clubs may continue operating within existing 10-week term-based pool hire arrangements where venue availability outside school terms is limited, for example pools located within schools or SSPs.

See: Locations Continuing on a 10-Week Term Schedule
What happens if my club does not operate during holidays?
Teachers working at clubs continuing on a 10-week term schedule will not be rostered during periods where lessons are not operating.
Can teachers pick up extra shifts during these periods?
Yes. Teachers interested in additional work may access available shifts through the Employment Hero Shift Bidding system at locations operating across additional weeks of the year.

Watch: Shift Bidding Tutorial
Planned Closures
Will there still be planned closure periods?
Yes. Planned closures throughout the year will include:
  • A four-week Christmas/New Year break: 21 December 2026 – 17 January 2027.
  • Public holidays.
  • Selected dates around major Rainbow Club events, including Malabar Magic, Rainbow Carnival, Rainbow Connect and training periods.
Family FAQs
When will families be notified of the changes?
Families will be notified on Friday 29 May regarding the move to continuous enrolment and monthly billing.
Will families need to do anything?
Yes. Families will be asked to review updated Terms and Conditions and update their direct debit details in the Parent Portal by 20 June to ensure lessons continue without interruption.
When will monthly billing begin?
The new monthly billing system will commence with payments processed from 1 July.
How will families be charged?
Families will only be charged for planned lessons operating at their club.

Example: If a club does not operate during the September school holidays, families will only be charged for three lessons in the September billing cycle, processed on 1 August, rather than four.
Club Operations
When will continuous enrolment begin?
Continuous enrolment will commence across all locations after the July school holidays, based on each club’s regular lesson day. Check State Term Dates
Will clubs operate differently under the new model?
At most locations, lessons will continue across additional weeks of the year, including some school holiday periods, creating greater consistency for members and more opportunities for teachers.

Flexibility

Please continue to update unavailability in Employment Hero as early as possible to support roster planning across the network.
