For the 6th year in a row, 13cabs is proud to be the Official Travel Partner of the 2020 Murray Rose Malabar Magic Ocean Swim, providing transport to children with disabilities and their families to and from the event.

“Our sponsor 13cabs makes it easy for Rainbow Club members to get to the beach on a Sunday morning by providing free transport to and from the swim. Families of children with a disability tell us how much they appreciate being picked up at their home and dropped at the beach. Not having to follow directions and find parking on a hot Sunday is something they really appreciate.”

Simon Purssey from 13cabs is a fantastic advocate for Rainbow Club Australia generously donating each member a ‘Digital Pass’ to help our families get where they need to go.

Two Sutherland Rainbow Club families were some of the lucky recipients yesterday. Team Sutherland also raised funds for Malabar, Carla Barnes, a teacher at Rainbow Club Sutherland, says:

“I have been teaching with Sutherland Rainbow Club for close to 16 years and have swum in the Malabar Magic for the last 6 years. Within this time Sutherland Rainbow Club has assisted over 15 students competing in the swim with 5 students entering the 1km since 2014.

Kyler and Phoenix Pendleton have been swimming at Rainbow club since they were 3 and swam the Malabar Magic for the first time in 2019, and first-time ocean swimming. This year after extensive training Kyler was going to enter the 1km swim and Phoenix was swimming the 250m event again. Unfortunately, this was not to be. Even though they missed out on the incredible experience of the Malabar ocean swim, both boys completed their distances in their local pool at Sutherland.

Over the last few years, Rainbow Club members and teachers have been fortunate in having the incredible support of 13cabs when attending the many events organised by Rainbow Club. This support has enabled many of the students to attend events which would not have been possible otherwise.”

Kyler and Phoenix’s mum Janey said

“they were great! We used them each way, and it just made everything so easy as it was the boys first Malabar Magic and they had such anxiety about it. We would never have got a park there.”

Janey’s husband was also away at the time, which may have prevented her from attending if it wasn’t for 13cabs.

Carla continues

“It was a lovely surprise to receive and Digital Pass from 13cabs. They have been so generous and supportive to all of us at Rainbow Club.”

While Rainbow Club was devastated to have to cancel the 2020 event in the week prior, we accepted advice from Surf Life Saving and the Randwick City Lifeguards which was overwhelmingly in favour of us acting in the interests of the swimming community. Though we had the unwavering support of sponsors and donors, we estimate our loss to be about $70k plus. The continued support of all our sponsors and supporters has been heart-warming.

13cabs Head of Client Services Simon Purssey says,

“13cabs has a deep commitment to serving its community and aims to support all Australians, providing equity and ease of transport access to all, no matter who you are.  For 13Cabs the message for supporting the Malabar Magic Ocean Swim is a simple one – no matter who you are, we will get you there safely.”
