Remembering Wendy Dyson
It is with great sadness that we share the news that our long-time teacher, Wendy Dyson, has passed away.
Wendy was a much-loved teacher of Rainbow Club for many years, and she touched the lives of countless children and families through her teaching. Her legacy lives on through the many children she guided in the pool and the families she supported along the way.
Recently recognised with a service award for 10 years of dedication to Rainbow Club, Wendy was admired by parents, members, and colleagues alike. She often travelled far to cover shifts at clubs across Sydney and was a committed presence at Rainbow Club events. Her kindness, patience, and ability to bring out the best in her students made her an irreplaceable part of our community.
Many will fondly remember Wendy’s encouragement to her swimmers to “give yourself an underwater clap” when they achieved something special, a phrase that perfectly captured her warmth, positivity, and belief in celebrating every success.

Ali says “Wendy had a huge heart. She was always so generous and somehow seemed to know when to check in — no matter what was happening, she cared.
One of the best things about Wendy was her belief in every child she taught. No child was ever too hard or too difficult; she always found a way to reach them and celebrated their successes with an underwater clap. She never complained, she just got on with the job with a smile on her face.
We shared so many memories outside the pool too, lunch dates, hot chocolate catch ups, and our favourite, visiting the maritime museum. Wendy has left a huge print on our hearts that will never be erased. She is free now — free to catch the final wave and dance in the ocean.”
“Wendy was an amazing teacher — passionate about getting children moving and working towards independence. When I was a new teacher 10 years ago, she was always generous in sharing her knowledge.
When I took on a position at Cherrybrook, Wendy was the very first person I asked to join us. She was always enthusiastic, extremely hardworking, and 100% reliable.
I miss her deeply, as will Rainbow Club and the hundreds of families and children she taught to swim.” Said Janet
